Kebony Wins Innovation Award

“The judges were impressed with how reliable the product is for garden designers and landscapers to use when they plan and execute their projects. They were also impressed with its sustainability credentials,” enthused Marcell Bernhardt, Head of the German division of the Norwegian company Kebony. He is delighted with the Innovation Award that the company received at GaLaBau 2018 in recognition of its commitment to the development of the Kebony® product. The BGL (German Federal Association of Horticulture, Landscaping & Sports Facilities Construction e.V.) recognises products and processes which provide innovative solutions to technical problems that arise when constructing and maintaining landscaped areas.

Kebony Clear 22 x 142 mm is the first and only modified timber product to receive a general building inspection approval certificate from the DIBt (German Institute for Building Technology). Receiving the approval certificate (abZ) enabled Kebony to significantly increase the product’s range of possible applications in 2017. The product has now been certified to be used in load-bearing structures in outdoor applications up to application class 3.2 in structures such as elevated terraces, bridges and balconies.

Its environmentally-friendly patented technology was another criterion upon which Kebony was selected as a winner of one of the 16 innovation awards out of more than 100 other contenders. The Kebony process enhances the qualities of sustainable softwood through the use of a bio-based fluid. Kebony timber is particularly durable, hard-wearing and easy to care for. It is a modified softwood with premium properties which make it ideal for outdoor use.
